Imperial College London President’s PhD Scholarships for International Students

If you are a high performing undergraduate or Master’s student and have a strong desire to undertake a PhD program at a world-class research institution, you could be selected to receive full tuition fees and a generous stipend for a PhD place at Imperial College London.

The President’s PhD Scholarships aims to provide up to 50 research students with great potential the opportunity to work within their chosen research field with the support of an excellent supervisor.

  • Candidates with a standalone Master’s qualification must have achieved a distinction or, where this has yet to have been achieved, be able to provide evidence of high performance that will lead to a distinction. To participate, there is not a specific scholarship application form.

You should submit your application for admission to study at Imperial through our online admissions system and your department will put you forward for the scholarship based on academic merit and potential.

  • When prompted for a personal statement you must ensure that it consists of approx. 1000 words (maximum 2 pages) and outlines your academic and research achievements to date, explaining in brief your planned research project. The selection panel will not consider statements exceeding the 2-page limit. You may submit updated versions of this statement if required following application submission.
  • To be considered for the President’s PhD Scholarship scheme, applicants must select this option in the funding section of the additional questions tab within the online application form.
  • You must also meet any additional application requirements stated by your department of choice.

  • Status: The Trust does not accept applications from students who are part-way through a course at Cambridge unless they are applying for funding towards a higher degree course following graduation.   • Degree level: Applicants must be intending to start a course at the level of undergraduate (excluding UK/EU applicants), Masters (such as MPhil, MASt, LLM), or research postgraduate (such as PhD).

Application Procedure

All students must be admitted to the University of Cambridge through the normal application procedures. The Trust plays no role in the admission of applicants to the University and is not able to influence the chances of an applicant being offered a place.

To create your application you will need to select which course you want to apply for in the Course Directory, read the information under the ‘How to Apply’ tab, click the Apply Online button located at the top of the right-hand column. You will then be taken directly to the Applicant Portal.

Supporting Documents:

  • You will be required to upload certain documents to support your application, for example, copies of degree transcripts and certificates, a research proposal, or statement of interest.
  • The requirements will vary depending on the course you are applying for, so check the listing for the course you are applying to in the Course Directory to see which supporting documents are required.
  • Your referees will also be required to upload references to support your application.
  • Additionally, if you are not from an English-speaking country or have not studied in one recently, you will also be required to demonstrate competence in the English language.

  • You must hold an offer to study on an eligible taught master’s course at Swansea University from September 2019. Programmes commencing in January, April and July are not eligible.
  • Applicants must not have previously pursued a postgraduate master’s course at Swansea University. Students must be enrolling on a taught master’s programme at Swansea University for the first time in September 2019.

To apply, you will need to complete the Taught Master’s Excellence Scholarship 2019 Application Form. Please return all completed forms to postgraduate.excellence@swansea.ac.uk. Non-Swansea graduates must also supply an academic transcript.

Who May Enter

To be eligible for a Chevening Award you must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
  • Full-time taught Masters Degree Programme in any subject
  • Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended
  • Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate program at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK.
  • Have at least two years’ work experience
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 11 July 2019
  • Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 11 July 2019

Application Procedure

To participate, participants can use the online registration and upload function to submit their projects during the submission period online system.

Awards

Around 1,500 scholarships globally will be offered. A Chevening Scholarship normally covers university tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, an economy class return airfare to the UK, and additional grants and allowances to cover essential expenditure.
