Who May Enter:

The scholarship is a merit-based program is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate course overseas in any study subjects. To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Applicant should be an Indian national with a valid Indian passport
  • The applicant should have a minimum scored of 60% in 10th and 12th.
  • Applicants should reflect that they lack means of self-funding their education abroad. Hence, the applicant should be planning to fund himself at least 50% through an education loan.
  • The applicant should be going to pursue any undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate (PG) course overseas to a recognized university/college outside India.
  • The course start date of the applicant should not be later than 31 October 2020.

Award Description:

The Education Future will offer various awards that depend on the quality of applications they receive. The value of each grant ranges between 2 Lacs to 10 Lacs Indian rupees. It is a unique position fund that not available for studying in India.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for U.S. Undergraduates to Study Abroad

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness.

The program is open to undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.

The Gilman Program aims to work with students to make scholarship experiences a success. The program is offer opportunity for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study or intern abroad.

Provided By: The Gilman International Scholarship Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and supported in its implementation by IIE.

Who May Enter:

To be eligible for a Gilman Scholarship, an applicant must be:

  • A citizen of the United States;
  • An undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States (including both two-year and four-year institutions);
  • Receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship;
  • In the process of applying to, or accepted for, a study abroad or internship program of at least two weeks for community college students and three weeks for students from four-year institutions, in a single country or area and eligible for credit from the student’s home institution. Proof of program acceptance is required prior to award disbursement;
  • Applying for credit-bearing study abroad programs in a country or area with an overall Travel Advisory Level 1 or 2, according to the S. Department of State’s Travel Advisory System. However, certain locations within these countries or areas may be designated within the Travel Advisory as either “Do not travel to” (Level 4) or “Reconsider travel to” (Level 3) locations, as such; students will not be allowed to travel to these specific locations. Moreover, students are not eligible to apply for programs in a country or area with an overall Level 3 or 4 Travel Advisory.

Required Documents:

There are two essays required as part of the Gilman Scholarship application: the Statement of Purpose Essay and the Follow-on Service Project Proposal. For those applying for a Critical Need Language Award, an additional essay is required.

Award Description:

  • Recipients can only receive the scholarship once.
  • Over 2,900 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study or intern abroad.
  • Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need.
  • Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad can apply for a supplemental award of up to $3,000, for a combined total of $8,000.
  • This award is competitive and offered to a limited number of Gilman scholars each year.
  • Not all students who are studying these languages will receive $8,000.
  • In addition to receiving additional funds for language study, students who are awarded the Critical Need Language Award and complete their Gilman Scholarship requirements will be offered the opportunity to take the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI).
