The President’s PhD Scholarships aims to provide up to 50 research students with great potential the opportunity to work within their chosen research field with the support of an excellent supervisor.

  • Candidates with a standalone Master’s qualification must have achieved a distinction or, where this has yet to have been achieved, be able to provide evidence of high performance that will lead to a distinction. They must also hold a first-class UK undergraduate degree or equivalent (integrated Masters that form part of an undergraduate degree, e.g. MEng, MSci, M.Math, are assessed by Admissions as an undergraduate qualification when determining eligibility). To participate, there is not a specific scholarship application form.

You should submit your application for admission to study at Imperial through our online admissions system and your department will put you forward for the scholarship based on academic merit and potential.

  • When prompted for a personal statement you must ensure that it consists of approx. 1000 words (maximum 2 pages) and outlines your academic and research achievements to date, explaining in brief your planned research project. The selection panel will not consider statements exceeding the 2-page limit. You may submit updated versions of this statement if required following application submission.
  • To be considered for the President’s PhD Scholarship scheme, applicants must select this option in the funding section of the additional questions tab within the online application form.
  • You must also meet any additional application requirements stated by your department of choice.

Award Description:

Successful candidates will receive the following financial support for up to 3.5 years:

  • Full funding for tuition fees
  • A stipend of £21,200 per annum to assist with living costs

Who May Enter

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Eligible courses include: All taught LLM programmes, All taught MA programmes, and All taught MSc programmes
  • Scholarships will only be offered to candidates who achieve a Bachelor degree with First Class honours (or equivalent).
  • You must hold an offer to study on an eligible taught master’s course at Swansea University from September 2019. Programmes commencing in January, April and July are not eligible.
  • Applicants must not have previously pursued a postgraduate master’s course at Swansea University. Students must be enrolling on a taught master’s programme at Swansea University for the first time in September 2019.

Application Procedure

To apply, you will need to complete the Taught Master’s Excellence Scholarship 2019 Application Form. Please return all completed forms to postgraduate.excellence@swansea.ac.uk. Non-Swansea graduates must also supply an academic transcript.

  • All applicants who are offered a place to study at Swansea University on an eligible course will be sent the 2019 Application Form with their offer letter.
  • You should apply for your course as soon as possible to ensure you can apply for this scholarship before the deadline. Scholarships may be offered to exceptional candidates prior to the closing date. You are advised, therefore, to apply for this scholarship scheme as soon as possible.

Who May Enter

To be eligible for a Chevening Award you must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
  • Full-time taught Masters Degree Programme in any subject
  • Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended
  • Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate program at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK.
  • Have at least two years’ work experience
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 11 July 2019
  • Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 11 July 2019

Application Procedure

To participate, participants can use the online registration and upload function to submit their projects during the submission period online system.

Awards

Around 1,500 scholarships globally will be offered. A Chevening Scholarship normally covers university tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, an economy class return airfare to the UK, and additional grants and allowances to cover essential expenditure.
