Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program

The Fulbright FLTA Program is a nine-month, ECA-funded, non-degree program. Applicants should either be current English teachers and/or in their final year at an institution of higher education studying to be an English teacher and/or have a diploma in Teaching English.

NASA CO2 Conversion Challenge

NASA’s CO₂ Conversion Challenge is a $1 million competition to convert carbon dioxide into sugars such as glucose as a first step to creating mission-critical resources.

The NASA CO2 Conversion Challenge is a public competition that focuses on discovering ways to develop novel, non-biological synthesis technologies that use carbon dioxide (CO2) as the sole carbon source to generate sugars that can then be used to manufacture a variety of products using both microbial biomanufacturing and chemical synthesis processes.

NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge

Each year the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge features an engineering design challenge to engage students worldwide in the next phase of human space exploration. The annual event is a more complex follow-up to the successful NASA’s Great Moonbuggy Race.

The competition challenges high school and college students to create a vehicle designed to traverse the simulated surface of another world. Challenge continues that tradition by providing an authentic engineering experience.

This student design challenge looks to the next generation of scientists and engineers to aid in the design process by providing innovative designs and unique perspectives. The student teams design, build and test technologies that enable rovers to perform in a wide variety of environments.

Dr. Joseph A. Towles African Study Abroad Scholarship 2018 is now available at UNCF. The Scholarship is open to all African American students who have currently enrolled in a study abroad institution during the fall 2018 semester or intending on studying abroad during the spring 2018 semester.

The African Study Abroad Scholarship will provide financial assistance for students at UNCF institutions to learn at an established university with the continent of Africa. Up to $10,000 scholarship award will be awarded to winning candidates by Dr. Joseph A. Towles and Family.

Provided By: Dr. Joseph A. Towles was a respected black social anthropologist and specialist in the study of African cultures.  Dr. Towles, a native of Virginia, earned his doctorate at the Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.

Who May Enter:

  • The applicants will be eligible if they have currently enrolled in a study abroad institution during the fall2018 semester or intending on studying abroad during the spring 2019 semester.
  • The scholarships will be sent to the selected recipients’ UNCF institutions, which will forward the funds to the study abroad university or institution within the 2018-19 academic year.
  • The Dr. Joseph A. Towles African Study Abroad Scholarship will be available only to candidates that have been approved to participate in an accredited study abroad program by their current institution.
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Ethnicities: African American/Black
  • Residency Status: U.S. Citizen, U.S. national or permanent resident
  • Colleges / Universities: UNCF affiliated
  • Academic Classification: College Sophomore, College Junior, Master’s Student

Supporting Documents:

The candidates will complete the content sections of the application. In addition, the applicants will submit two essays, current transcript, resume, study abroad program details, one academic and one general reference letters.
